max no of video conference participants |
|
|
Hi there
What is the maximum number of participants I can have in a video conference
using NetMeeting? If the limit is 1-to-1, can I "toggle" between
participants?
Best regards

NetMeeting alone supports one to one audio/video calls only, though it can
participate in a multi party call supported by an H.323 MCU.

Hi Brian
It seems like a huge leap from a 1-to-1 VC session using NetMeeting and an
Internet connection to multipoint VC sessions using Windows Server 2003 PLUS
Live Communications Server 2005 PLUS Office Communicator 2005 PLUS an MCU.
We're just a small collaborative research outfit consisting of 8 people
operating in 4 cities in 2 countries. Do you know of anything intermediate
from Microsoft?
Best regards
Loane

Does "Office Communicator Plus" even support multi party audio/video at
all? What MCU would you use? I am not aware of any Microsoft product or
even third party product that would provide this function.

Exchange 2000 had an optional/extra cost H.323 MCU that supported multi
party NetMeeting and multi party TAPI3 client connection (on private
networks). That was the last multi party audio/video product that I am
aware of from Microsoft. I believe that they are now projecting LiveMeeting
to provide this functionality in some future service offering.
There is an open source MCU product for H.323 (http://www.openh323.org) but
the last I heard they had removed the video support ( and it never had
T.120 support to support the data part of NetMeeting calls).
Multi party audio/video is really a tough nut to crack unfortunately.
Everybody claims to want it but few are generally unwilling to bear the
cost (both the product and bandwidth/computing power cost in operation).
All the products I am aware of in this field have been a failure. |

Here's another idea worth considering!
Have you looked at CamTrek, www.camtrek.com ? I really suggest you
consider this video conference software for your needs. It allows
private peer-to-peer communication, NAT compliant, bandwidth friendly,
many additional features, user friendly, and very inexpensive. If you
have technical concerns email neil @camtrek.com. I think you'll be
glad you gave this a try.
Make it a great day!

Hi Brian
I've found something at www.wiredred.com -- looks promising.
