I have net.meeting set up on a remote (in the attic) windows 2000 sp4
machine. I have gone into net.meeting and enabled RDS and then exited
net.meeting with "Exit and activate rds"

From my PC (Windows XP SP2) I try to connect to the remote PC and it all
works OK.

After a re-boot of the remote machine I am unable to connect. If I click
the RDS icon on the taskbar (by going to the remote machine) all options
excpet exit are disabled. When I try to connect from my pc to the remote
machine it posts an "accept call" message on the remote machine display but
does not automatically connect.

If I go to the remote machine and start then exit net.meeting everything
works out fine and rds accepts calls automatically.

The only hot I found similar on this on MS KB was about service pack 1 for
netmeeting where it said "The Automatically Accept Calls setting is preserved
by default when NetMeeting is quit and started again" but this does not seem
to work on either my machine or the remote machine - I can set it then exit
and restart and the option is no longer set.

How can I set up RDS to accept calls automatically even after the re-boot to
save the trip to the attic?

I am not sure what you are saying here -- if the incoming call acceptance
message comes up then RDS is definitely not running.

Make sure the Tools->Options General tab "Run NetMeeting in the background
when Windows starts" is *not* set -- that will cause regular NetMeeting to
run on startup -- *not* RDS.

This is a different issue I believe -- and has to do with non RDS calls.

I don't know -- on every machine I have used it works that way(and that is
the way it is supposed to work) so I am not sure what is causing your
problem -- unless it is the issue I mentioned above.

OK Thanks - I have now got this solved - thanks for the pointer.

When I first set this up I had net.meeting scheduled to run in background.
RDS prompted me this was set and offered to disable it. I took this option
but it looks like it does not reset all the pointers. I went into settings
and

1. Turned off RDS
2. Exit netmeeting
3. Turned on netmeeting "run in background"
4. Exit netmeeting
5. Turned off netmeeting "run in background"
6. Exit netmeeting
7. Turned on RDS
8. Exit and start rds option in netmeeting

This worked ok.

I reproduced the error by going back to the start, then set "run in
background" back on Then went to enable RDS ... RDS offered to diable run in
background (and appeared to do so as the "Run in background" checkbox in the
net.meeting options was not checked) but got into the same problem ...
repeated the reset process above and all now ok

Have added some comments below as well

RDS was runing - the icon was in the taskbar and the service was running
(checked in admin in services). If I right clicked the RDS icon all options
except exit were disabled.

Allowing RDS to turn off this seems to be the cause of the problem

Agree - but gave me the lead as netmeeting was clearly running in background
even though the "run in background" option was not ticked"
