I am attempting to configure NetMeeting (version 3.01) running on a Toshiba
Tecra under XP Pro (version 2002 with SP1) on a home LAN. I am able to
establish a session with another laptop running XP Pro but cannot share
programs - the "share" button is greyed out. The Chat and Whiteboard
buttons work (i.e. am able to chat and share a whiteboard). Attempts to
enable sharing through "Call", "Host Meeting", and selecting "Sharing" under
"only you can start these meeting tools" have also failed.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated,

Thanks,

What sort of user is attempting this sharing? An "Administrator"?

Is it possible that a policy has been set for the user or computer
forbidding sharing ( start->run->gpedit.msc to start Group Policy Editor)?

Brian

Thank you for responding so promptly.

I have validated the userid does have admin privileges:
Control Panel, User Accounts, the user has "Computer administrator"

I next looked into the Group Policy settings as you suggested:

Local Computer Policy, Computer Configuration, Administrative
Templates, Windows Components, Netmeeting:
set "Disable remote Desktop Sharing" to "Disabled"

Local Computer Policy, User Configuration, Administrative Templates,
Windows Components, Netmeeting, Application Sharing:
set all settings (Disable application sharing thru Prevent
Application Sharing in true colour) to "Disabled".

then I shut down, powered off and restarted - "share" button still
greyed out.

To verify the policies were effective I set "Disable Chat" to "enable"
(Local Computer Policy, User Configuration, Administrative Templates,
Windows Components, Netmeeting) and this greyed out the Chat button. When I
set it to "disable" the chat button became functional again.

Possibly an interesting observation - all values in the policies were set to
"not configured" when I started.

If you have the item for any other ideas - these would certainly be
appreciated.

Thanks,

John

That is the normal situation.

I don't know what to suggest. You could try the de/reinstall procedure at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q267958 to see if
it has any effect.

Brian

At the risk of appearing to ask a dumb question - here do I find the
"%SystemRoot%\Inf" folder referred to the remove article you provided me
the link to ?
Also, when I checked the "Applies to" list I did not see XP Pro - is this a
problem ?

Thanks,

John

Generally %SystemRoot%\ refers to "C:\Windows\" ( but could be elsewhere)
-- it can be used as is in searches. Be sure to view hidden files and
directories as well when you are searching for the file as the directory
and/or file could be "hidden".

The procedure works on XP as well - even though it is not listed in
"applies to"
