Hi all

We are working with Netmeeting RDS from Win2k for nearly four years now, and are very pleased.

But now we upgraded some workstations to WinXP SP2, and we have trouble on some of this XP Clients.

When starting a call, you get "The person you called is not able to accept netmeeting calls" from the client.

- We are using this feature in a LAN environment without internet access. I tried calling the Netbios Name and also the (correct) IP Adress.
- The windows firewall from xpsp2 was deactivated ! No other firewall was installed
- the netmeeting rds service on the target computer was running
- A normal netmeeting call succeed without problems, this behavior only happens with the RDS (Remote Desktop Sharing) feature.
- Netmeeting was reinstalled (there exists a KB Article on this)
- Remote Assistance or Remote Desktop are working properly, but these tools have disadvantages (No log out with Remote assistance, no users screen with remote desktop)

Are there any knows problems with software products, who can cause such failures?

Thanks for any ideas on this....i've reached the end of my knowledge. Sad

has information on firewall modifications/configuration required to run RDS
in XP SP2. I would have thought that disabling the firewall would solve
that problem though.

Only XP SP2 or all of XP? We've had the latter. In most cases, disabling
call security worked. The problem turned out to be that the Help Desk set up
NM under the local administrator account and the NM privacy certificate was
tied to the admin account. Logging in as the end user, unchecking the
security boxes, saving the change and then re-checking the security boxes
fixed it.

The problem solved by the KB article is SP2 specific.

@Brian
We use the firewall settings from that article. I also disabled the firewall service too, to be sure that there remain no blocked ports, programs or services

@Ray
This is interesting. We also configured Netmeeting with the local admin account and secure calls. But for RDS you always need secure calls.
Therefore i tried your solution, but it didn't help.

Thanks for your answers, any further ideas on this case?

Assuming this is directed at me:

I have totally lost the context here. What article? what is the problem
again?

Hello Brian

You gave me this hint:

Brian Sullivan wrote:

has information on firewall modifications/configuration required to run RDS
in XP SP2. I would have thought that disabling the firewall would solve
that problem though.

But this unfortunately didn't help.

The problem was described in the first post of this thread.

Found the original thread.

I don't know what the problem might be -- assuming RDS is running and
activated(the icon in the system tray indicates that?) and there is no XP
firewall interference.

This is strange, only RDS didn't work.

A real netmeeting session is working fine, also the "share desktop" feature while you are in a call.

Maybe it has something to do with sysprep?

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;878451 (which
relates to the XP firewall setup) is the only thing that I can think of --
I know you said the XP firewall is deactivated though -- are you sure?

Im definitely sure. I implemented all these settings via Group Policies and tried also to deactivate the firewall service.

Can you connect to tcp 1503(from a client to a problem client running RDS)
using a telnet client technique mentioned in:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q171648.

Does netstat show tcp as a port being listened to?

Dominik and Brian, it appears I have the same issues after reading
through the entire thread. Have you had any further insights?
