Baystack 5510 password

Postby Matt » Fri May 13, 2005 6:58 pm

I just inherited (new job) a baystack but nobody knows the password.
I want to remove one of the 6 switches in the stack and deploy it
elsewhere.
#1) We don't have support on the stack, I've already called Nortel and
they wany $$$$. Is there a backdoor password or console default?
#2) Can I power down a switch in the stack, pull it out and use it
elsewhere or do I need to power down the entire stack?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

TIA!

The price must have come down ;-(

If it's like the 450's, then it's a calculation based upon the
MAC address, different for every machine.

You can pull it out: the ring topology will automatically adjust,
and will re-adjust when you re-seal the ring.

A trick that has been fairly successful with 450's is to take the
switch, attach it as a slave to a 450 that has a known password,
power up both, log on to the known master, and tell it to save
settings for the entire stack. On the 450's at least, that pushes
the known password into the other unit. And of course once you have
one unlocked (e.g., with the help of a friend) then you can use it to
unlock the others.

...or reset it to default settings with NO password. Much better to me...
