Verizon Virtual Office Billing |
|
|
Everyone else stuck with Verizon on the east coast,
Back in July we were quoted $100.00 installation + $90.62/month for
Verizon's Virtual Office ISDN package, unlimited data calls (to be used
for Internet access). Our account representative said "an RJ-45 is
included", therefore inside jack installation was covered. Considering
that the cost would be reasonable iff we removed our fax line and used
ACO/call dropping our 128k connection, we decided to go this route.
The installation was then delayed three times, with different claims of
"construction" and "upgrades". Since we had satellite Internet access,
we were able to cope with the delays. However, our existing fax line
(POTS) was "accidentally" disconnected multiple times due to the delays
in installation. We finally had our line installed in September.
We hooked our 3COM ISDN Pro TA into the line, and the call dropping did
not work. So, until we could get the issue resolved, we set the TA to
use one D-channel only for our Internet access, leaving the other free
for our fax calls. We were able to have the ACO added to the line (note
that it was SUPPOSED to be on the line in the first place, as we clearly
stated to our Account Representative that we would need to receive
incoming faxes on the line.) A technician stated that we could have ACO
added, but the line would need to be reprovisioned. The line was down
for a short while, but when back in service, the technical aspects of
our ISDN Internet access were working perfectly.
Then, our next telephone bill came... Verizon charged us for many extra
services including labor for installing the RJ-45 jack, multiple
disconnection/connection charges above the $100.00 (including installing
the line in the first place, and when the line was reprovisioned), and a
few other miscellaneous charges. We disputed the bill and had almost
all the extra charges removed. We paid the bill, and thought the issue
was resolved...
Our next bill came, stating over 24,000 minutes in measured data calls
at .02/min, or $480 in minutes. We called the Verizon office and
disputed the bill, and had the charge removed.
When the 15th of November came, with all the previous billing problems
in mind, I called the Verizon office and checked our account balance.
Simply from the balance, I knew that we were being charged minutes
again. I contacted a human operator and confirmed my assumption.
Just a warning; but also, does anyone know who at Verizon should be
contacted to fix these billing problems? The billing office says to
contact our account manager, our account manager says to contact
billing. Should we consider a switch to another local telephone company
for the ISDN line? I'm trying to find the best way to get our billing
corrected as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Jake Thompson

I'd try:
http://investor.verizon.com/corp_gov/bios/babbio_lawrence.html
as he's an engineer.
Write him a letter at NY Hq., explain what you did here, and wait a few weeks.

I am in the second month of my VOI service and the bill is still not
correct. It was to have been about a $61.30 + taxes monthly charge.
First bill was $500+ which was corrected manually and VOI service I
ordered was to have been added to my account (as it was to have been
in the first place). Second bill arrived today still $400+. They are
charging me $.02/min to connect.
Don't ya just love it! Monday I am back on the phone.

I've installed two ISDN lines in Massachusetts Verizon territory. The first
time it took about 9 months from initial order to first correct bill. The
second time it took about 6 months from initial order to first correct bill,
even though I already knew the right things to say. I made the mistake during
the second order of using the first (still running) line as an example. This
resulted in a request for more details so they could investigate whether I
was actually allowed to have the first line set up as I did. That particular
phase of the negotiation ended with a rather funny message on my answering
machine. The rep said that he had talked to an order supervisor and had
been told that the configuration was "not illegal" in my state so even though
he had never heard of such a thing he would "let it go." Isn't that generous?
