Planing to buy a cam that is capable of 640x480 at 30fps.

Just have read, that under WinXP ...
1.) XP-Messenger
2.) MSN-Messenger (7.x Beta)
3.) Netmeeting (wasn´t clear here)
.... are only capable to display the video in QCIF (176x144)

Is this correct, or just false information ?
Are they all capable to display 640x480 ? (If not, which prog. can - sorry
to ask THAT here *gg*)

Thx
Mike

Don't know formats here -- but I think 7.x (no longer in beta btw) does CIF
or maybe larger.

NetMeeting supports maximum CIF - 352x288 (as well as QCIF and SQIF) -- all

sizes can operate in scaled 2x,3x,4x.

NetMeeting supports CIF max.

XP Messenger has fixed size video ( around QCIF I think)

MSN supports CIF ( or similar size) -- it may support larger -- I haven't
used it enough to know but will display scaled to full screen.

So they are more or less useless if true 640x480 is needed/wanted. :(

MSN Messenger 7 perhaps is the only chance -- I have only had one video
call with it and don't remember much but I doubt it will transmit video
that big ( I think its large size is CIF).

I doubt that there is any current internet based program (or even local
internet IP based calling) that will have video calling with true 640x480
(or close) video -- the sustained bandwidth required is very high --
generally well beyond the bandwidth that most stations/networks have.

You could have a look at Conference XP -- a Microsoft Research
video/audio/data collaboration tool designed for high speed (Internet 2
speeds) generally only available in university research networks.
