Cannot enable RDS |
|
|
I think I messed up the initial setup of netmeeting and need some help correcting it.
The machine is winXP pro, SP1. Note: SP1
When I first installed Netmeeting it was under an account that did not have full administrator rights. Now I cannot enable RDS. The icon is on the system tray, but when I click on Activate, nothing happens.
Even if I log in under an administrator account, the same thing occurs.
What are the steps to unistall? And will that even help?
I read another post on the web that said that when Netmeeting is first installed that it creates some kind of security key that is not removed when it is uninstalled, and if this was done with a non-admin account, then RDS would not function. However, this was under NT, so I was not sure if the same applied to XP pro.
Any suggestions? |

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;878451 has a
procedure for enabling NM RDS in SP2 firewall.
Are you running the firewall on SP1?

What do you mean nothing happens? What were you expecting and what
did/didn't happen?

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q267958 has an
uninstall/reinstall procedure ( it doesn't really uninstall but sets the
registry to "virgin" state)
I don't know if it will help as I am not sure what your problem is.

NetMeeting is preinstalled on XP (and the initial procedure is just
configuration process) so I am not sure this applies. |

There is no firewall. Unless a firewall is part of SP1 which I do not think it is.

On the icon in the system tray, when you right click and try to "Activate Remote Desktop sharing" nothing happens. What I would expect to see is that Activate option gray out, and the Deactivate or Stop option become active.
The uninstall procedure did not help. The same thing occurs. |

Yes SP1 has a built in firewall (disabled by default).

I don't know what the issue might be.
What happens if you disable RDS (set/unset the tools ->options -> general
... Run NetMeeting in the background check box), then renable it? All this
should be done from an account with full administrative rights to the
machine. |
