Greetings. It's been 5 years since I've used ISDN, so I have some
experience. I have to hook up an ISDN router for my father, who cannot get
DSL, or Cable. The last ISDN router I used was a Cisco 804. It worked
well, was reliable, but a bit difficult to get configured. I was wondering
if anybody could make some recommendations for a good but inexpensive ISDN
router? I noticed that you can get the Cisco 804 for about $50 on eBay.
Another unit I've used before was the 3Com Office Connect, but they seem to
be considerably higher in price.

Any input on good used ISDN routers would be appreciated!!

Thanks,
Mark

There hasn't been much change in the ISDN market, its pretty much
stagnated in the US after DSL became available, so the same routers
you are familure with are still the main ones out there.

Unless you like pain and don't value stability but go for ease of
setup for the most basic setup, stay away from the 3com OC.

One other thing you might look at is the Netgear ISDN router, or the
Netopia ISDN routers (ie. R3100, should be dirt cheap on eBay), but if
you're familure with the cisco and setting up IOS, and you can get
them at a decent price, I'd just go with that.

I am not a ISDN expert but i set up several Zyxel Prestige 100 and 202 which
included NAT, stateful firewall, multilink support
and included default filters to stop the line being brought up by Netbios
broadcasts and the likes to help you avoid a heart attack
when you receive your phone bill.

Internet Setup is easy and well documented but setting advanced config can
be confusing.

The prestige 100 is cheap these days. Can be found in the 50-100? range i
guess.
The 202H is more recent and allows to set up 2 vpn tunnels for remote access
via internet but costs around 150?

Both are stable.

My experience has been the opposite. I dumped a troublesome Netgear
RH348 (IIRC) and replaced it with a 3Com OCLM, which has been
trouble-free. Go figure.
