I am trying to configure a PP8010 (v 3.3.0) as a Layer 3 switch and to grab
RIP updates from a BLN that is connected directly to it.
I've enabled IP forwarding and RIP, enabling RIP in the Advanced tab.
However, the 8010 will not grab the entire routing table that is present in
the BLN.
Obviously I am missing something, but cannot find my way. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Hi WanNutt

A PP8010 is a chassis without any intelligence or modules in it, used for the PP8600 and the PP8100 Systems. :-) So I
guess you've got a PP8600 system.
First thing you have to know about RIP is, that there is RIP version 1 and RIP version 2. The difference is that RIP V1
does "only send classfull routing updates", meanwhile RIP V2 does classless updates.
Here some basics:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk364/technologies_tech_note09186a0080093f1e.shtml
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk364/technologies_tech_note09186a0080093fd8.shtml
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk365/technologies_tech_note09186a0080093fd6.shtml
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk365/tk554/tsd_technology_support_sub-protocol_home.html

So my first guess is that you are running RIP V1. So please check on both systems and if necessary change to RIP V2.

Thanks Roberto. The chassis is an 8600 and I am running RIP v2 on all

affected interfaces. There are 82 routes in the BLN's routing table, but the
8600 only grabs 29.
I've also looked at the RIP stats and it shows that no updates have either
been sent or received by the switch.

What kind of routes is it missing? Are it static routes?

In that case you need to create announce policies on the bln

Go to Protocols, IP and select policy filters.

Within that you can choose rip, ospf etc.

Create the announce policy. You can find doc's about it on the nortel
website. It simple
