I always used an old version of netmeeting (4) om win 98,
because in this version i could make a connection directly to an IP-adres in
my network to a second pc,
without having any connection to the internet.
Is this also possible in the newer versions ?
I want to upgrade XP. but don't want to lose this option.

I am not sure what you are thinking of -- but there is no version v 4-- the
current version of NetMeeting is 3.01 (and has been since 1999).

NetMeeting on XP is still V 3.01 and still works the same way as it has
since 1999.

Internet Explorer 4 was released in 1997 -- at that time the released
version of NetMeeting was 2.x. The current version 3.x has a different
look, and some added features but has functions basically the same way. It
can make calls directly to an IP address in much the same way as version
2.x could.
