We've got a manager that is attempting to host a meeting (chat only)
but is having a problem getting calls through to one particular user.

After creating the meeting, the manager can sucessfully call and chat
with all participants, except for one. When the manager makes the call,
NetMeeting tells him that it is waiting for a response from the user.
However, the user is never notified that there is a call coming through
(no ringing bell, no popup window, etc.). Eventually the manager is
told that the user is unable to answer NetMeeting calls.

The reverse is also true. The user can call and chat with other users,
but when he attempts to call the manager, the manager is not informed
of the incoming call, and the user is eventually informed that the
manager is "unable to accept calls".

Here are the things we've checked:

Neither the manager or the user are behind a firewall of any kind.

None of the routers on the network are configured to filter out
NetMeeting traffic.

The manager can send/receive calls to/from other workstations in the
building the user is in. The user is able to send/receive NetMeeting
calls to/from other workstations in the same office that the manager is
in. This seems to be a case of there being a problem only when two
specific users attempt to call each other.

The manager and the user have NetMeeting configured identically:
security settings, the works.

I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any idea of what might be causing this?

How are these calls initiated ( ILS, direct to IP or ...?)

Are these NAT routers? Are the users on private networks -- perhaps
different networks for the caller and called machines?

I would try to do more simple network tests -- can you ping the called
station from the caller that fails. Can you connect using the telnet
methods outlined at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q171648.

What kind of stations (what O/S) are involved here?

Thanks for the reply! To answer your questions:

The calls are initiated via ILS.

The routers are not NAT routers, nor are there any private networks
involved.

The two workstations can ping each other. I haven't tried the telnet
stuff yet, but will.

The OS is Windows 2000 SP3, with components of SP4 and SP5 installed.

The workstations are Dell Latitude C600 laptops.
