data applications not in a call |
|
|
**apologises if u notice this is a dbl post am new to newsgrps & posted as
reply to an old post... **
Hi there
I have been using NM with same person for over 2yrs, gone from dial up, to
cable, to dsl connections (bw the 2 of us). We've used win 98, 2k & xp sp1 &
xp sp2 aswell over this these 2 yrs. We've deal with the bugs here & there,
things like "auto accept calls" not remaining ticked each time u open NM
(dang annoying) etc.
However lately the chat log dies after several hrs (and i have noticed if we
are transferring a file it also dies) when i say "dies" i mean .. the chat
log will have on the title window "Chat - Chatting with 1 other(s)" .. then
after several hrs be it while we r talking or if one is at work or sleeping
after hitting send msg the chat title says "Chat - Not in a call". Its
extremely annoying. The video still works (we dont use audio) so we can
still things going on but we just cant chat/send a file etc any more.
The other person is using xp sp1 & i am using xp sp2 I do know that
versions of NM are the same but the build # are different. We r both using
routers, using different firewalls (software ie: black ice, za) we have
trusted each others ips in our files anyway so that we dont have a firewall
issue. As i mentioned tho this chat - not in a call has happened now & again
over the 2yrs but now its constant but only after several hrs. I've googled
till i'm googled out for answers but seems no1 else has this issue.
I even (stupidly) rang MS in Australia for help and the silly assistant said
XP didnt come with NM I tried to tell him otherwise when he suggested I've
d/l it from somewhere & he was then gonna suggest I do d/l it MS.com (i
laughed bc i know u cant). And NO i didnt take up their offer to pay a fee
of $50 to have their tech help me further!
Hopefully some1 here can end this annoying chat loss.
Thanks in advance. |

I presume you have implemented the known fix for this issue and it no
longer bothers you?

I don't know what the cause of your problem is but I suggest a network
issue of some kind triggering a timeout. There is no known NetMeeting
problem (at least not one that I am aware of) -- and nothing I can think of
that might help your situation(other then ending and reestablishing the
call).

Probably a good choice -- I doubt your $50 would have resulted in a
solution.

*grabs blonde wig* umm err no |

on this particular issue I didnt retain the info :(

Yeah we r thinking it could be his newer router bc nothing on my end has |
changed.
Only problem with using process of elimination on the configuration is the
fact the chat dying does take several hrs, which could end up takings us
days/wks to figure it out. Though I'm sure we will ....... though if NM is
going to no longer be continued in future window products & MS take similar
action in those future releases as they have with XP (ie: cant d/l NM from
their site) it maybe time to start looking around for another prog :( which
also hasnt proved successful over the years..

I am not sure whether you had this already or not but:
http://www.meetingbywire.com/_various/AutoAcceptXP.reg
is a registry mod that allows persistent auto accept.

The no download for XP is quite deliberate -- as the only and correct
verson is included with XP and is protected by the system file protection
mechanism as part of the system. It has been this way since Win2000.
As for the future -- I suspect any downloadable version to be so out of
date that it would have no chance to run anyway.

Well since I am just another user and not a part of MSoft crew (well the
MVP crew -- but that is just a group of user volunteers) the opportunity
for providing lessons is limited. ;-)
