Nortel Option 11C connected to Teltronics SEB II (Site Event |
|
|
We recently signed up a new customer with a Nortel Option 11C. They
already have a Teltronics SEB II (Site Event Buffer II). We need to
change the phone number where the SEB dials out to and also
add/edit/delete a couple or so filtering alarms on the SEB. We
understand that we can do this thru Irisngen, but a $35k investment
doesn't make much sense for what we're trying to accomplish. There's
a program called "SEB Manager" which is an old DOS-based application
which we believe can do what we're trying to do. Unfortunately, we
can't seem to find this software application. Is there any other way
of reprogramming the SEB? Or where can we get and/or purchase this
"SEB Manager" application? We tried contacting Teltronics, but they
said they no longer sell it. Instead they want us to buy their $35k
Irisngen. |

You can dial into the SEB and make the changes via Procomm or Hyperterminal.
The catch is, you will need the administrative password. I would have the
customer contact the previous vender to see if they will reset it for them.

I too had the same request a couple of years ago, but have been unable
to find a copy since. I know there are techs out there that have it.
I agree, it's rather rude that you have to pay $35k just to complete a
couple of routine tasks.

Seem that I remember an old trick for resetting the buffer back to factory
defaults. Seems like we had to keep hitting the reset button, like 13 times
in a row waiting 1 second between each reset. This was quite some time ago
and I'm scratch my head trying to remember exacly what we did, but I do know
that all passwords reverted back to initial factory setings.

Yup...pushing the reset button 13 times will indeed reset the
SEB...everything will be gone, including the alarm database. Even if
you do reset the SEB, you still won't be able to reprogram (change the
dial out phone number, change the alarm filters, etc) the box without
the DOS-based SEB Manager or Irisngen. Our only hope is to find the
DOS-based SEB Manager. :(

Some notes on hitting the button 13 times. Do it slowly, press and
hold down the button, you'll hear the relay click in, wait about 1
second, and release, do 12 more times. You will know the reset was
successful if the CHK lamp goes out on the SEB. At this point you'll
need the SEB Manager software to load a new ASP file back up to the
SEB. Flip over the SEB and look for a sticker that says something
like xxxxxxx.pcd (where xxxxxxx is the ASP file name). Long story
short, your SEB is worthless after hitting reset 13 times unless
you've got the SEB Manager. Fortunately I dug up the SEB manager
software and books from the bottom a dusty desk drawer and after some
experimentation, I now config my own SEBs. I have some difficulty
with the SEB JRs put the SEB 2's are a piece of cake.
In reply to a post in this thread about configuring the SEB with
hyperterminal... I've never heard of that, please shed some light on
this topic. Sounds pretty cool if it can be done. |
