Hi

At our company we have a bs450 stack with one giga port
connected to bs1200

the stack is divided into two vlans
vlan1 -pc's
vlan2 -(sun-ray)
The giga port is truncked and it is part of vlan1 and vlan2
The port on bs1200 is also trunked and part of vlan1 and vlan2 on
bs1200
The problem we have is that dhcp server request are accepted from dhcp
server on vlan1 to ports on vlan2 and vi versa
is there a way to avoid dhcp (broadcast) between vlans

Thanks

A couple things:

1. Do you want to provide DHCP services to both VLANs?

2. Have you checked the PVID settings on the ports connected to the
hosts that are generating DHCP requests?

BTW, what the heck is a BS1200? Do you mean an Accelar 1200? Your DHCP
requests should not be broadcasted onto multiple layer 3 segments,
unless there is a configuration error or you have some type of filter
forwarding the

Hi
1 . Yes I want dhcp on each vlan -only from a dhcp server within this vlan
2 The host at each vlan has pvid similar to vlan id
hosts in vlan id 2 have pvid 2

yes I meant Accelar1200
I am using Accelar1200 and bs450 default settings
I did not configured any new settings

thanks for the quick replay

1. The Accelars can use DHCP/BOOTP relay to forward DHCP/BOOTP requests
to a DHCP server. I would suggest creating relay agents on the routing
instance for each VLAN that you wish to deploy the DHCP service, and use
the one DHCP server. It has been a long long time since I have used the
CLI of an Accelar, but I remember it being pretty darn similar to the
CLI of a Passport 8600. Regardless, you should be able to publicly view
Nortel's docuementation on how to configure the relay agents.

2. PVID can trip you up. If you only have one VLAN on a port that is
not tagged, you need to make sure that the PVID matches that VLAN. PVID
on the Baystack is equivelent to 'default VLAN' on the Passport. Amoung
other things, it is the VLAN that untagged frames are forwarded into.

Hope this helps and does not confuse you more.
