Does anyone know of a product that will allow a Meridian Digital set to work
across great lengths of cable (5000ft +)? Unfortunately, this is the only
option, and it has to be a solution that works on copper only.

Thanks in advance,

AJB

Long ago, you could put a transformer on the set and that would extend the
range. Don't know if it works on the newer sets.

This used to be an MCK product, but they were bought out by Verso. It's a
cheap way to extend a digital phone line either through a network or by
using an analog phone line that has a much further line propogation than the
digital phone line. I used the analog in a site where the cable length
didn't allow a digital set to work. I put a 2500 line on the cable and used
this box at the far end. The digital phone connects to the box as does the
analog line. Back in the phone room, another box gets a digital line for
the phone connected to it as well as an analog line. Basically, you
configure the remote to call the host via modem over the analog line and the
digital signal for the phone is then extended through the modem connection.
There is compression involved, but you could never tell. All the digital
set's functions and keys worked fine and the sound quality was great.

FYI, this is also a cheap and easy solution if you have a small number of
people who need PBX phone access at home. My old boss did this and you
could never tell if he was working at home or in the office unless you
walked by the office and looked in...

I have used the MCK products before. As a matter of fact I have one sitting
in my home office. Unfortunately, the issue is I don't have Telco
facilities in this particular location, only lots of copper.

Thanks anyway,

AJB
