We have a Nortel Alteon Link Optimizer Model 143 and I have
a question about WAN link load balancing. When I set up
load balancing for outbound traffic I define the ISP routers
into a Server Group and tell the ALO to watch the routers by
pinging them (health icmp). But as far as I know the routers
will answer to ping even if the lines behind the routers are
down.

The only explanation I can think of is that the ALO will
send the ping packets using an other line. So router A is
pinged using line B and vice versa. Unfortunately the manual
doesn't cover this issue. Does anybody know how it actually
works and what is the pinging algorithm if we have for example
four or seven ISP lines?
