ASN Router |
|
|
Hello all;
A question ... I have a Nortel ASN router with 3 100TX base modules in it,
which are broken out to three different segments. When someone tries to copy
a file from one of these segments to the other, the bandwidth across these
segments seems very slow (say 300-400 kbps). When copying a file on the same
segment, the file copies much faster (4,000 kbps). Does anyone know if there
are setting in the Site Manager software that may be set that would limit
the bandwidth limit between these 100TX cards? I can't seem to find anything
that would cause such a dramatic slow-down of communication between the
segments.
Thanks. |

Sounds like the router is overloaded (or there is something else wrong as
well, but that router will struggle with that amount of I/O).
If it used to go much faster and suddenly slowed down, i would go hunting
for a network problem, such as duplex mismatch, or a worm within the
network.
last time i checked an ASN should have at most 2 100 base-tx interfaces -
and a fast packet cache.
even then it not going to be anything like wirespeed - 30k packet/sec
without a cache and 50k with, under ideal conditions.

I suggest that you put a layer 3 switch in place of the ASN if you want good
performance between 100 Mbps LANs at a reasonable cost (unless you have to
have the software for some reason).
maybe a passport 1600 series box?
